How to Get Here

Vava’u is a group of islands 275 miles north of the main Tongan island of Tongatapu .  International flights fly into Tongatapu regularly from many destinations. There is currently one domestic carrier operating here in Vava’u but it seems hard to get any info from travel agents regarding them so hopefully the following info will be of assistance.

Chathams Pacific  have their own offices in Tongatapu and Vava’u.

Chathams Pacific
Tongatapu:     +676 28 000 or +676 28 133
Vava'u:            +676 71 280
email:               Sales@Chathamspacific.com
Web:                www.chathamspacific.com

Daily transfers take approximately 1 hour and cost around TOP$400 return/per person.

When you arrive at the international terminal in Tongatapu there is little or no information about transferring to domestic flights, but what you need to do is get a taxi (they’ll be waiting right outside the terminal door) and take a 2 min ride down the road to the domestic terminal (should cost about $5 per person).  When you get to Vava’u we can meet you at the airport in Vava’u to transfer you to Lucky's for $50, just send us your flight details and confirm the day before.

Ferries

The ferries are really having trouble right now.  Please do not consider this option without writing us first.

Another cheaper travel option for getting to Vava’u at around TOP$70.00 each way is the ferries from Tongatapu which come to Vava’u once a week.  The Pulupaki is the fastest ferry at 16 hours including a 1-2 hour stop in the Ha’apai group of islands on the way up.  The Olovaha, a little cheaper, is the other ferry taking 24 hours - it takes the same route but has many stops on the way. These options are good if you are bringing big or many surfboards.
